The El Segundo Education Foundation receives NRG Energy Grant with first installation being completed.

El Segundo, Calif., February 24, 2012 – El Segundo Education Foundation (ESEF) (Ed!) was recently awarded a $225,000 Energy Grant from NRG (El Segundo Power, LLC) to be distributed over the next year and half to El Segundo Unified School District (ESUSD) for energy efficiency and sustainability projects.  The first installation, at a cost of about $28,000, is being completed now by replacing all of its facilities’ irrigation timers with smart control irrigation controllers.  These are wireless weather monitoring stations that determine the need for watering.    It is anticipated that these new weather stations will reduce the districts water use by 20% to 50%, which could equate to tens of thousands of dollars in savings.
